hi,

more about me

I was born and raised in Minnesota, and currently live in Saint Paul, MN. When I'm not making a mess of my apartment working on my next project, I can usually be found walking my dog Bean and admiring the architecture of my neighborhood. While I've lived most of my life in beautiful Minnesota, I've also spent time living in France twice, once while attending the University of Minnesota, and again in 2018-19 as a teaching assistant helping students learn English. This gave me the amazing opportunity to travel extensively, much of which has inspired my visual art and writing.

As a mixed, first-generation Mexican-American, I also find a lot of inspiration from my family and our ties to Mexico, the East Coast, the mountains, and the ocean. When my father was in his 20s, he came to the United States from Mexico for education, where he later met my mother in South Carolina. Our travels throughout Mexico as well as the East Coast have deeply shaped who I am and my creativity.

Art has been a significant part of my life for many years. From photography to mosaic work, I've always enjoyed finding new ways of using my hands and have never been able to choose just one medium. Around age 12, I was given my first camera and soon fell in love with capturing small moments on film. Before photography, I loved to draw and paint, and around 10 years old, my mother taught me how to sew my own clothes (though these days, most of the clothes I make are for my dog). Later in life, I would expand into illustration, watercolor and gouache painting, jewelry making, poetry, graphic design, stenciling, block printing, modeling, and more.

My most recent pursuit has been in mosaic art, which I developed an interest in while helping design features in my family's home in Mexico. After drafting sketches of two stone fireplaces as well as custom archway columns, I agreed to design an original mosaic backsplash for the kitchen, and it quickly became a newfound passion. More on that can be found here.
